Warring States Project , founded in 1993 in the College of Humanities and Fine Arts of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, specializes in classical China (the historical "Warring States" period), early Christianity, and the Hebrew Scriptures. It is a center for the systematic historical-critical study of the foundational texts and the development of thought in these traditions. To the standard toolkit of philology, the Project has added a stylistic difference test which applies to texts in any language. It provides objective evidence helpful in the detection of interpolations and in the adjudication of disputed, or unasked, questions of authorship.
The Project's publications are addressed to the specialist, the informed general reader, and the classroom student. Two annual journals report leading-edge research from the international scholarly community. |
